GetTheScript vs TranscriptSnap: Link Convenience or a File That Stays Put

Both tools turn short-form video into text. They disagree about one thing, and it determines everything else: whether you hand over a link or a file.

Disclosure up front — TranscriptSnap is ours. So this page starts with what GetTheScript does better, and it is a real advantage rather than a token one.

The short answer: if you want to transcribe someone else’s public Reel or TikTok in two seconds, GetTheScript does something we deliberately do not. If the video is yours, or confidential, or larger than 50 MB, the file-based route is better.

What GetTheScript does that we do not

It accepts a URL. Paste a TikTok, Reels, Shorts or Facebook link, pick a language, get a transcript. No downloading, no file management. For studying videos you did not make — competitor research, trend analysis, finding out why something worked — that is genuinely faster, and we have no equivalent.

We chose not to build it. Fetching a post from Instagram or TikTok requires routing requests through third-party proxy networks, and those integrations break whenever the platforms change. That was a dependency we did not want, and the decision has a cost we should own: if pasting a link is the job, we do not do the job.

What the link costs

A URL does not transcribe itself. The tool has to fetch the video onto its own servers, run a model there, and send the text back. The video is uploaded either way — the only question is whether you do it or their infrastructure does.

That matters for a specific and narrow set of recordings. For a public TikTok it is irrelevant; the video is already public. For your own unreleased footage, a client’s material under NDA, or anything you would not post, it is the whole question.

Worth reading the privacy wording carefully on any tool in this category, ours included. GetTheScript’s site says your data is handled securely and is not shared with third parties. That is a real commitment about what a company will do with material it holds. It is a different claim from “the file never reaches us,” which is a statement about architecture rather than intent — and which you can verify yourself in a browser network panel instead of taking on trust.

Two rows deserve a note.

The 50 MB cap. GetTheScript’s upload mode takes up to 50 files at once, which is more batch capacity than we offer — but each file must be under 50 MB. That is small for video: a few minutes of 1080p footage will exceed it. The cap does not apply to us because there is no upload to size-limit; a one-gigabyte MOV is read straight off your disk. Its own page also notes that free file upload is a current state rather than a permanent one, which is worth factoring into a long-term choice.

Batch. Fifty files at once is a real advantage if you are processing a backlog. We run one at a time. The model stays cached between runs so each subsequent file starts immediately, but it is sequential, and for fifty videos that is a meaningfully slower afternoon.

About accuracy claims

GetTheScript advertises a 95%+ accuracy rate. We do not publish a number, and it is worth explaining why rather than treating it as a point scored.

Both tools are built on the same generation of speech models, so on identical audio the results are close. What actually moves accuracy is the recording: microphone distance, whether music sits over the voice or under it, how many people talk at once, and how many proper nouns are involved. A single percentage cannot describe that, because clean podcast audio and a windy street interview are not the same task. Any short-form transcript — from either tool — needs an editing pass on names and brands, which is where errors cluster.

Which one fits

Use GetTheScript when:

• You are transcribing public videos you did not make, at speed.
• You have a backlog of small files and want them done in one pass.
• The convenience of not downloading anything is worth more to you than where the file goes.

Use TranscriptSnap when:

• The video is yours, unreleased, or under an agreement.
• Your file is over 50 MB — which most real video is.
• You do not want an account, or a limit that changes later.
• You want to be able to check the privacy claim rather than trust it.

The one-step difference

Being concrete about the trade: our route asks you to save the video first. For your own content that step barely exists — the export is already on your phone. For someone else’s public Reel it is a genuine extra step, and if that is your main use case, the honest recommendation on this page is the other tool.
