Turn a TikTok video file into text

Length is not a problem either: longer videos are split into overlapping windows and stitched back together, so a three-minute clip and a fifteen-second one take the same path through the model. Why we ask for the file instead of a link
Pasting a link feels like less work, but it is worth knowing where the work actually goes. A tool that takes a TikTok URL has to fetch the video onto its own servers before it can transcribe anything, so the clip gets uploaded regardless — by them instead of by you, to a machine you know nothing about. What you save is one step; what you spend is a copy of the video on someone else’s disk. There is a second cost that shows up later: those integrations break every time TikTok changes how its pages work, which is why link-based tools go down in waves. Short-form audio is harder than it looks
TikTok mixes music on top of speech rather than underneath it, creators talk fast, and pitch effects are common. Clean speech over a quiet bed transcribes well; a loud music bed, several people at once, or a heavily processed voice will produce rougher output. Expect to edit more than you would with a podcast recording.
What the transcript will not capture
Transcription reads the audio track and nothing else, which matters more on TikTok than almost anywhere. Text burned into the video is invisible to it — the hook typed across the first frame, the punchline that appears without being said, the captions someone added in the editor. So are sound effects, the name of the trending audio, and anything carried by the edit rather than the voice. If you are transcribing a video to work out why it performed, read the transcript with the video open: the gap between what was said and what was shown is often the whole trick. And if you are transcribing your own video to build captions, check what on-screen text is already there — repeating it in a subtitle track makes the frame busier without adding anything.
