Good to know
Turn a TikTok video file into text
Drop in the video — your own export, a draft, or a clip you have the rights to — and the spoken audio becomes text with timestamps. It runs entirely in this browser tab, with no upload, no account and no daily limit.
Why we ask for the file instead of a link
Fetching a TikTok from a link means going through third-party proxy networks and re-fixing the integration every time the platform shifts. We decided that dependency was not worth it. You bring the file; in exchange the tool does not break, does not meter you, and never sees your video.
Short-form audio is harder than it looks
TikTok mixes music on top of speech rather than underneath it, creators talk fast, and pitch effects are common. Clean speech over a quiet bed transcribes well; a loud music bed, several people at once, or a heavily processed voice will produce rougher output. Expect to edit more than you would with a podcast recording.
Subtitles are not optional on short form
Much of TikTok is watched muted, so burned-in subtitles are part of the content. Exporting SRT gives you an already-timed file to drop into an editor instead of typing captions line by line. Shorten the long cues — a spoken sentence often cannot be read in the time it occupies.
Studying structure, not copying words
The useful thing about the transcript of a video that worked is the structure it exposes: how fast the premise lands, where the turn happens, how the ending loops back. That is a pattern you can apply to your own subject. The exact sentences are both less useful and not yours to publish.
Frequently asked questions
- Is the TikTok transcript generator free?
- Yes, and unlimited. Everything runs on your device, so there is nothing to meter.
- Why can I not paste a TikTok link?
- Link fetching requires proxy infrastructure and breaks whenever TikTok changes. We chose not to depend on that, so the tool works from the video file — which also means your video is never uploaded.
- Do I need to install anything?
- No. It runs in the browser tab. The speech model downloads once and is cached, so later runs start immediately and even work offline.
- Does it keep timestamps?
- Yes, and you can export them as SRT or VTT subtitle files.
- Does background music ruin the transcript?
- Not usually, but it costs accuracy. Speech mixed loudly against a music bed is the most common cause of dropped or invented words.
- Which formats work?
- MP4 and MOV as exported by TikTok, plus WebM, MKV and common audio files.
- Can I transcribe several videos at once?
- Not in a single batch yet. Run them one at a time — the model stays cached, so each additional video starts immediately.
